Sorrel is a hibiscus flower that is used to make a popular beverage in Jamaica.

Recipe

2 cups of hibiscus flower petals 8 cups of water 2 cups of sugar (or sugar to taste) 1 medium sized ginger root (extracted) A few rice grains 2 oz white rum (optional)

  1. Boil the hibiscus flower petals in the water for 30 min and then let it sit for an hour to steep.
  2. Strain the hibiscus liquid in a large pot
  3. Add sugar to the hibiscus liquid
  4. Juice the ginger
  5. Add the ginger to the hibiscus liquid
  6. Add the rice grains to the hibsiscus liquid
  7. Add the white rum to the hibiscus liquid
